More of what we offer
Graffiti lessons

Along with clay making, graffiti lessons have the effortless ability to fascinate a child. We offer a variety of ways to teach graffiti to children.
Ceramic cups and pots
Within this lesson we teach the students a clay making technique called coil building. The coil building method is a very traditional way of building clay vessels. Once the child has learnt this technique they can go on to make pots, cups and bowls. This lesson really gives the children a skill that they can use again and again in order to make a variety of forms.
African masks
This project helps the children learn about the meanings and uses of traditional African masks
while at the same time allowing them to create authentic looking clay masks.
Each chils is given a clay mask template: they then build a face upon their clay stencil. They are glazed and fired and each child has an authentic looking African mask.
Tie dye
This lesson is very inventive and has great results. Using wet wipes, elastic
bands and paint we begin by teaching the children particular folds. The children then fold their wet wipes and then paint the wet wipe. Once they remove the elastic bands and unfold the wipe, some amazing tie dye patterns can be seen. This lesson is very good fun and the children are often so involved no sound can be heard in the class!
Kites
Typically kite building requires a lot of preparation time and a couple of days
for construction: it also requires a great deal of skill on the part of the maker. With Artstart kites the whole making process can be complete within 45 minutes leaving time for students to go outside and enjoy flying their kites. This is a quick easy lesson with a good practical outcome at the end.
